take off the valve cover,remove the rockers,take off the intake manifold take out the push rods,then pull out the lifter,if the lifter is mushroomed you may need to get a lifter puller
A locally manufactured end puller
At the beginning of the lift, the lifter's force is greater than the weight of the barbell to overcome inertia and initiate movement. During the middle of the lift, the lifter's force is equal to the weight of the barbell to maintain constant velocity. Towards the end of the lift, the lifter's force is less than the weight of the barbell due to deceleration and control.
That balancer requires a 3-jaw puller to pull it off, just be sure you have the claws on straight, and if it gets too tight to turn the end of the puller, tap on the end with a hammer, then turn some more.
with the rocker cover removed, try pushing down on the pushrod end of the rocker arm. if it moves ,the lifter is bad
