From March, 1941 the United States of America was openly giving aid to the UK in the guise of the Lend Lease Scheme.
As early as September 13th, 1941 US ships and aeroplanes were assisting the UK with protecting the Atlantic convoys. Unofficially they were now at war with Germany.
In December 7th, 1941 the Japanese Imperial Navy launched an attack on Pearl Harbour along with other targets. This act is seen as the official start of US involvement in the war.
The USA officially declared war on Japan on the December 8th, 1941. 3 days later declared war on Germany and Italy and on June 5th, 1942 declared was on Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania.
