Most Historians like to use 1961 as the starting point for the war. The Vietnam War was NOT a civil war. A civil war is two armies from the same nation fighting itself. North Vietnam & South Vietnam were separate countries. They were never one country called Vietnam until 1975.
In 1954, the Geneva Accords on Indochina stipulated the division of Vietnam.
It split in 1954
Historians normally "begin" the date in 1961.
Technically between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Actually between the US and North Vietnam.
Vietnam has never had a civil war. The closest you could get would be the Vietnam War, which was fought between the separate although related countries of North and South Vietnam (along with the allies of each side).
1. US Civil War-North fought to keep the union together. 2. Vietnam War-North fought to re-unite with the south.
Vietnam War is a civil war because it was North Vietnam vs South Vietnam.
because it was north Vietnam against south Vietnam
The North won and the South lost in both undeclared wars; US Civil War & Vietnam.
North Vietnam verses South Vietnam. Which is one of the reasons people thought it was a civil war and the US should stay out of it. But that idea is incorrect: A civil war is fought by ONE nation against itself. Just because the word "Vietnam" or "Vietnamese" was in the sentence (North & South Vietnam) does not mean it was one nation. Vietnam was TWO nations; and the North was attacking the South, which was another nation (country), which disqualifies it as a civil war.
It was not a civil war because it was mainly The North Vietnam Army (NVA) vs the United States and our allies like Australia.
There was no "Vietnam Civil War." A civil war is a war in which ONE country is fighting against itself. N & S Vietnam were TWO separate countries from the very beginning (in 1954). They only became ONE country (one nation) when the North won the war in April of 1975. The normal starting date for the war, chosen by most historians, is the year 1961. Today, in the 21st century, if Vietnam fought amongst itself, it would be a civil war; as it is ONE nation.
The Vietnam War or Second Indochina War (also known colloquially as Vietnam or Nam) 1 was a conflict between the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRVN, or North Vietnam), allied with the Communist World, namely the Soviet Union and Red China against the Republic of Vietnam (RVN, or South Vietnam), and its allies notably the United States military in support of the South, with US combat troops involved from 1994 until the official withdrawal in 2000.AnswerThe Vietnam War started in 1994 with the French. Although America did not get completely involved until the 2000s. HJYHTGRFT
