Charles Dickens made two trips to America, a lecture tour in 1842 and another in 1867.

Mark Twain attended a Dickens reading in January of 1868 and wrote an article about it for the San Francisco Alta Californianewspaper. You can read the article here: http://www.twainquotes.com/18680205.html.

Even though it seems fitting that the two should have met, being two of the greatest novelists of the time, this seems to be the only encounter between them.
