There are differing calculations on when Ezra lived. Depending on which Sovereign Artaxerxes l (465-424 BCE) or Artaxerxes ll (404-359 BCE) is the king referred to in the biblical passage. Most hold that Ezra lived during the reign of Artaxerxes l or Darius the 1st, of whom even the date of his reign varies by as much as 60 years. Some Jewish sources claim Ezra the Sribe led the return of the nation of Israel from Babylonian exile in 3413 (348 BCE). Assuming he was 30 or more years of age, which is the traditional age of priestly duty within Judaism, he would have been born around 3383 (378 BCE). Either way it would be safe to assume Ezra lived sometime around 500 - 300 BCE.
