The earliest RECORDED history seems to be from Ancient Greece or the biblical account of Sodom and Gomorrah (depending on how you interpret the account). In neither case does it seem to be considered something "new" so it undoubtedly predates any recorded history.

Answer:

The earliest occurrences of homosexuality was during Ancient Greece, I believe. It was a time when human sexuality was respected and openly accepted, particularly through the "blessings" of the Greek gods and goddesses. Pederasty (or the social significance of the partnering of a young boy and an old man) was prevalent as well, and was probably one of the most significant traits of Ancient Greece. It was common for a man to have a male lover and a woman for procreation. Homosexuality is most prominent in Greek architecture, such as the statues of nude individuals, particularly of men (as the male form was seen as magnificent).

Homosexuality was not restricted only to the western section of the world however, as it was also dominant in Ancient Japan and China, where male relations were given spiritual value and given the utmost respect. Homo-erotic art and poetry had much value in ancient times.

In the ancient world homosexuality was abundant, but as we all know, the implication of organized religion (particularly the Big Three) shattered such ancient traditions and forced the ideal of homosexuality (and in turn, love for the same sex) to deteriorate through the ages until it slowly started resurfacing in the 21st century.

It is a physical impossibility to provide a factual, neutral answer to this question due to the sensitivity of the topic and the radically different views surrounding it. The majority of the scientific community today supports the view that homosexuality is a natural occurance in many species, Humans including, thus meaning homosexual behaviour has been occurring in animals for thousands - if not millions - of years if this theory is correct. Some religious groups and a handful of scientists disagree with this interpretation and would instead say it is a recent occurance produced by certain environmental, or moral, conditions.

Nonetheless, the first record of Human homosexuality appears in 2400 BCE, some 4,400 years ago, in ancient Egypt. Khnumhotep and Niankhkhnum were both servants of the Egyptian King Niuserre, and were interred in the same tomb upon their death as a couple would be. The two men are depicted on the walls of their tomb that suggests the two were a homosexual couple, who may or may not have had adopted children (the tomb carvings depict individuals who may be heirs to their line), making them the first known homosexual Humans.
We've been here since the beginning. In fact, homosexual behavior has been observed in almost all animal species.
