The winter of December 2009, to January 2010, has seen the worst snowfalls in the UK, for many years. With current thoughts on global warming, this heavy snow may seem strange. However, global warming, or climate change, does mean that extremes of both good and bad weather may be experienced
Feb, 2009>>>Parts of the UK have struggled with a second day of disruption following their heaviest snowfalls in 18 years, which closed more than 6,000 schools.
The snow turned out to be worst in the UK for 50 years.
Some days, parts of the country saw 10 inches of snow falling. This happened as much in the south of England as in northern parts of the UK. The south, unused to such snow, both loved and hated it. The snow ground many southern areas to a standstill but children were out in force building snowmen, sledging and more. The Ski slopes of Scotland have had their best winter for years as far as trade goes.
The Meteorological Office predicted that the amount of snow which fell could be the biggest single fall since the notorious winter of 1962 to 1963. That winter saw some areas of the country were covered with snow and ice for more than three months.
