To understand how puppy mills got their start in Canada it is best to have at least a basic understanding of how puppy mills got their start in the first place. To the best of my knowledge puppy mills got their start in America.
In 1884 the American Kennel Club was founded. At that time, pure bred dogs were considered to be a symbol of one's status and were owned exclusively by the wealthy. However due to the post war boom of the late 1940's people began to have greater amounts of leisure time and disposable income. Because ownership of a pure bred dog was still considered to be a sign of wealth middle class Americans began to insisting on owning purebred dogs. At this time farmer in the Midwest were seeking alternative croups and that combined with a growing demand for purebred dogs marked the start of commercial breeding and it wasn't a far jump between commercial breeding to puppy mills.
The concept of puppy mills probably began slowly trickling over to Canada from that point on, however while in the United State laws are slowly put into place to control puppy mills Canada's cruelty to animals act has largely remained unchanged since it's inception in 1892. Canada's cruelty laws do not protect mill dogs unless they are in terrible condition. Also the Canadian government does not regulate commercial breeders as is done to some extent in the US, so they can not even be tracked, there is no way to know who they are or what they are up to. I suspect that as regulations on commercial breed tighten in America, puppy mills will become all the more prevalent in Canada.

any puppy store puppies are from a puppy mill. When you buy a puppy from a puppy mill- you are sending the money you just spent to that puppy mill and making it stronger. please just adopt a dog in need.

A puppy from a puppy mill is more likely to have illness or parasites from the other dogs. It will probably have fleas or lice. The dieseases could spread to you, but are more likely to hurt the dog. If a dog is bought from a suspected puppy mill, do these things. 1. Call and ask the owner about health. Some puppy mill owners will give false documents or words. Get real proof from a vet. 2. If it is a puppy mill, turn it in to the police. Puppy mills are illegal. 3. Get the dog proper vaccinations and treatments. 4. Enjoy puppy.
From an irresponsible breeder or puppy mill!
HORRIBLE!
A rescue! most dogs in pet stores come from a puppy broker and he got his dogs from a puppy mill. I recommend the National Mill Dog Rescue. I volunteer at the shelter. It's in Colorado.
A dog/puppy from a pet store or puppy mill may or may not have genetic defects, you would have to check with your vet, but if you have not already bought your puppy, I suggest you adopt from an animal shelter. The animals are much healthier and you get the background of the dog or puppy before you adopt.
beg, plead, beg some more. tell them that you will take full resonsibility for it. and tell them how could you say no to an abandond creature! i agree i have always wanted a puppy, especially from a puppy mill so i will feel good when he is better again. but, my dad wont let me i keep trying to tell him that if you get one from a puppy mill, you will be helping the world a whole lot. tell him that!

The only importance is to get them out of the hell-hole of a puppy mill so they cannot also be used for breeding. Unfortunately, that does not solve the problem of puppy-mills and the need to abolish them. Only legislation will make this solution a reality!
