This is a highly debated topic. In general the people that make up the Cherokee have been in that area since the last ice age: 15,000 to 50,000 (or more) years ago. No one disputes the "clovis" culture (apx.15,000 years ago) but some digs (topper) have found disputed evidence at 50,000 years ago.

The Cherokee lived in Georgia until they were forcibly walked from Georgia to Oklahoma by the United States government to a reservation. This was called the Trail of Tears because men, women, and children died.
