someone said "Except for the High priest in ancient times, Jews never spoke the name of God. The High priest would only speak the name once a year, on Yom Kippur. After the Temple was destroyed and the priesthood ended, the pronunciation of the name was lost."
This is not entirely accurate. Take a look at the book of Ruth:
And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The LORD [be] with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee. - RUTH 2:4
In the Original Hebrew the word LORD is YHVH (the Hebrew letters Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey) the actual NAME of the Creator. As you can see Boaz and the reapers greeted each other by saying out loud the name of the Creator not the word LORD. The common people did say the Name in normal conversation. This happened a LONG time before 70 A.D.
ClarificationAlthough the Tanach has people using HaShem's true name, this is a literary device and doesn't reflect the actual practice of the time. Please see the related article for a discussion about this topic.

To get it to stop saying the dogs name you can do two things. One is turn the power off without saving. The other is saying the name over and over again until you say it in the same voice three times in a row. Good Luck.
