they began the expedition with sacajawea on april 7,1805. There were 27 soldiers, 2 interpreters, sacajawea, Lewis, Clark, and Pomp (Sacajawea's son). If Sacajawea never saved journals and precious cargo from the lead pirogue we wouldn't have much recorded history of her

Who cared for Sacajawea's baby when she was on the Lewis and Clark expedition?

She would gave birth to Jean-Baptiste Charbonneau during the expedition on February 11, 1805, and she would care for him as they traveled along. However, at one point the baby developed an infection in his neck accompanied by a high fever, but Clark treated him with poultices and he eventually threw off the infection. Clark was very fond of Jean-Baptiste, and even nicknamed him "Pompy" or "Little Pomp", however during the expedition Clark had other business to take care of so it was up to Sacajawea and her husband Charbonneau to care for their child.
