This question cannot be answered as it stands for several reasons. 1. Australia and New Zealand are two completely different countries, and separated by about 2,300 km. 2. An earthquake has not recently hit the North Island of New Zealand. In 2010 and again in early 2011, the far southern city of Christchurch, on the South Island, was hit by earthquakes, resulting in enormous damage throughout the city.
