Although it was clear that the USSR had given up on taking new territory by force, their retreat from Afghanistan was problematic. Many people believed that their retreat might be the beginning of the end of the Cold War, that was considered to be overly optimistic.

Soviet troop withdrawl was in 1989. But continued to support the President Dr.Nazibullah's Goverment till 1992. Nazibullah got his doctorate from Soviet University.

Reactions were mix and different.

Mujahedeens Felt comfortable on Soviet Military absence, They decided to strengthen their attacks.

Pakistan as neighbour by border felt so happy.

Saudia Arabia who financed anti-soviet campagne felt like winners.

US felt relax, as Expansion of Communism by the Soviet Union ended in Asia
