Elvis Presley was drafted into the US Army in 1958 and served as an armor crewman aboard an M-48 Patton tank with the 1/32 Armor in Europe (Germany). He honorably discharged from the army in 1960. The M-48 Patton tank was the same type of tanks used in the Vietnam War.

The draft had been ongoing since the end of WW2; Example: Elvis Presley was drafted in 1958, he served as a M48 Patton tank crewman with the 1/32 Armor in Europe. The US President at the time was Eisenhower. The M48A3 Patton tank was used by US Army & Marine forces in Vietnam.

∙ 6y agoThere was no draft just for the Vietnam War. The post WWII draft ran continuously from 1948 to 1973 without interruption.
According to the
Selective Service System, from 1954 through 1963 (peacetime) they drafted 1,327,343 men for military service, from 1964 through 1973, they drafted 1,840,650 men.
