The earliest metalwork found in Britain was in the rich burial of the Amesbury Archer, found a few miles from Stonehenge in 2002. He had golden hair tresses and copper daggers imported from Spain. He lived C2300 BC and had come from the Alps. Technically he carried no bronze but the ensuing trade in tin and copper heralded the arrival of the bronze age.
