What are tectonic plate and where do they start and end?

Just finished this unit in 6th grade science :) Plate tectonics means that the plates are in slow, constant movement. There is no start and end.

How were mountains build?

Due to the movement of the plate tectonics land mass will start to build up and mountains will build up.

What do plate tectonics have to do with sinkholes?

Singholes generaly do not relate to plate tectonics. In most cases sinkholes result from the removal of underground material, which eventually cause the ground above to collapse into the space left behind. This is most often a result of weathering.

Do catfish start earthquakes?

no plate tectonics do Yeah, them farting causes the ground beneath them to begin shaking violently, causing complete eradication of an area.

How do plate tectonics cause the volcano to erupt?

they start mocking the volcano until he gets very mad at them, so pukes blood at them very violently

What is one hypothesis regarding the formation of a divergent boundary on a continent?

i dont know if its is true, but plate tectonics

What is the theory that explains volcano eruptions and earthquakes?

Volcanic eruptions don't cause earthquakes but they generally happen at the same time. For example at a destructive plate boundary when an oceanic plate is sub ducted beneath a continental plate , the friction causes an earthquake. As the plate heats up and the mantle's convection current pushes the magma up towards the crust, the magma explodes through the crust as a volcano .

What are two bad things that can happen because of plate tectonics and how do the plates cause these things to happen?

a) Continental crust - continental crust convergence (eg the Himalaya where the Indian plate is pushing against the Eurasian plate) b) Oceanic crust - continental crust convergence (eg the Andes where the Pacific plate is pushing against the South American plate) What are two bad things that can happen as a result of plate tectonics? a) Earthquakes b) Emission of poisonous gases from volcanoes How did plate tectonics cause these events? a) Earthquakes occur as a result of the sudden movement of one tectonic platerelative to another. As a result of friction, they are often held in one particular position until stress builds up sufficiently that there is sudden movement. Shock from this movement is conveyed through the surrounding rock resulting in an earthquake. b) Volcanoes, themselves rarely cause much destruction & death. However, poisonous gases emitted from stratovolcanoes which are frequently found at oceanic crust - continental crust convergence zones do result in deaths of people & of farm animals. This happens as a result of the hydration of the oceanic plate as it sinks underneath the continental plate, its partial melting & the rise of steam & gas charged rhyolitic or andesitic magma to the surface.

What is the main process that has shaped the surface of the Earth?

Plate Tectonics. The theory that the earths surface is broken up into plates that move. When plates convrge, diverge, or when sublimation occurs create tenches, mountains, earthquakes, and volcanoes.

What is the rock cycle and what is the role of plate tectonics in the rock cycle?

The rock cycle is a series of processes on Earth's surface and in the crust and mantle that slowly change rocks from one kind to another.Plate movements start the rock cycle by helping to form magma, the source of igneous rocks. Plate movements also cause faulting, folding, and other motions of the crust that help to form sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.

What piece of flatware do you start with first?

* It depends on what the dinner menu is. The correct high end etiquette for flatware is: dinner plate ... salad plate ... soap bowl (or stemmed cocktail bowl). The guests would start with the soup first (or the cocktail dish which may have lettuce leaves, prawns, etc., then the salad (only used if soap is on the menu and not the stemmed cocktail bowl) and then the main course (dinner plate.) Dessert is generally served separate.
