Women in New Zealand won the right to vote on September 19, 1883. Women in the United States won the right to vote on August 18, 1920.
Why not? Same reason other countries let women vote. We have every bit as much right to vote as any man does. We're affected by politics and government too.

Was there only one? I thought they had the right to vote in lots of countries. In the United States women secured the right to vote with the passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution. This occurred is August, 1920.

New Zealand is not "ruled by the British Commonwealth". Firstly, that organisation's correct name is The Commonwealth. There are 54 members of the Commonwealth and NZ is one. NZ's Head of State is the Queen, who is represented in NZ by the Governor-General. NZ's head of Government is the Prime Minister, currently John Key.

Britain. However it developed it's own. NZ was not fully independent from Britain until adopting the Statute of Westminster in 1947. The women's suffragette movement was started by Kate Shepperd, resulting in NZ becoming the first nation in the world to grant women the right to vote in 1893. NZ was therefore the first country in the world to have universal suffrage.
Kate sheppard was leader and figurehead of the NZ Woman's suffragist movement and was influential in the campaign for equal voting rights for women. New Zealand granted the right to vote to women in 1893 becoming the first country in the world to do so, thus Kate Sheppard's activity helped not only NZ women but women the world over.
