You need to add the barbecue sauce before sealing the ribs inside the foil. If it is sealed tightly, the sauce will not evaporate and the meat will cook in the sauce.

Add some vinegar and sugar.
The biggest mistake most people make is putting it on before starting to cook. It should not be put on the meat before grilling. The sugar in most of them will burn and leave you with black and charred outside and raw inside. Wait until the last 5 minutes to put it on the meat.
You saute or grill the ribs separately, then serve it with the separately made black bean sauce. If you want to serve them as one, then cook the ribs separately and then add them to the simmering sauce and simmer for a while.

If they are frozen you should thaw and boil them with seasonings. Then put a little sauce on and bake for aroun 30- 50 minutes and add some more sauce. Now matter what, grilled ribs are always a better alternative.
