towing, now I carry alot of weight so if I'm driving under 60 mph or mountain terrain I turn overdrive off will save transmission repairs later
Check the fuse.
If your refering to the over drive button. It's located on the shifter handle.
Press the button on the inside of the right side shifter
E40D in most cases (over drive button on end of gearshift?)
It means your over drive is off, you can turn it back on by pressing the smaller button under the button used to move your shifter
you hit the button on your shifter, green light means over drive is off, on dash ,,you should drive car in over drive unless ,,you pull a trailer ,or boat or something...
Over drive button shuts overdrive off - should be used when towing, when engine braking is desired for descending a small hill, when in sustained city traffic not exceeding 45 mph, when driving in inclimate weather snow etc.
In most cases drive with overdrive especially if maintaining over 45 mph. Take out of overdrive if on slippery pavement
over-drive... take it its an auto On the gear selector handle, there is a button. Pushing that button will turn the Over drive off (light is on) or turn it on (light is off). This allows it to leave 3rd gear, and will put less wear on the engine and transmission at a speed of about 45 or higher.
stands for over drive off ( lights up when the over drive feature for the automatic transmission has been switched off ) On my 1995 Ford Explorer the overdrive control switch is on the end of the gear selector lever on the steering column
on yours shift knob that's when u shift from Park to drive in the center is a button when u press it once it its telling you that the over drive is either On or Off so all you have to do is press it again to get it in Overdrive or not in Over Drive
On a 1999 Ford Contour : If by any chance you mean the ( O/D OFF ) light that is located in the lower part of your gauge cluster , towards the left side : That means that the automatic transaxle ( transmission ) overdrive has been switched OFF . The switch button is on the drivers side of the gearshift handle lower down
