There are different conventions as to what work is negative and what work is positive. The convention used by engineers and physicists is that work done BY the system on its surroundings is positive while work done ON the system by its surroundings is negative. Chemists reverse these conventions.
First of all, let's get one important concept established. Energy is energy, and there is only one kind of energy. The only difference between what some people call positive or negative energy is point of reference. If the energy is coming towards you then it is called positive, and when it is moving away from you it is called negative. If the work that is done is constructive, then people tend to call it positive energy. If the outcome is destructive, they call it negative. In both cases, the same energy was used, just the results differed. Here's an example. If you build a house, it is a positive result. But if you tear it down, it is negative. You still used you muscles and tools to do it, just the final result was different. But, now if you tear down an old building and erect a bigger and better new one, then was the tearing down negative or positive? See what I mean? The same thing happens to electricity in circuit boards. They get bigger and smaller, diverted into different directions, stored and released, over and over again. The most important thing is what it made when it finished. If it made your mp3 player play your favorite tune, then you'd probably say positive. But if it didn't work, then somewhere the circuit is not directing the electrical energy to a positive result, music, but instead no music. Again, the same energy is being used, just the result may not be as 'positive.'
Work is done when a force is applied to an object which moves in the direction of the force.
Did you mean "The strength of electric field is positive or negative"? Anyway, there is your answer.. The strength of an electric field E at any point is defined as the electric force F exerted per unit positive electric charge q at that point, or E = F/q.You can say that it is positive.
work is only said to be done when force applied to a load moves through a distance.that is to say that a man standing one place carry a load without moving for 5 hours have not done any work.
An object wont have a force, it will have a force acting on it. If a force acting on an object is negative then that simply means that the objects is in the opposite directon than the defined positive. Eg. An object hitting the ground will exert a force on the ground (F=ma) if we say that up is positive then the force is going to be negative (Acceleration due to gravity will be negative). So the force is not "negative" just opposite to the positive direction. Hope that helps.
Negative work
When you say consequences they are all positive. When you say impact, they may be positive or negative, such as positive impact or negative impact. But we don't use phrases like positive consequence or negative consequence. But there are surely positive and negative impacts! What do you say?
Positive + positive = positive Negative + negative = negative Positive + negative will take the sign of the number with the greater absolute value.
Im going to have to say negative.
negative integer
The quotient of a positive integer by a negative is always negative. Say this to yourself a couple times: "MULTIPLICATION: minus times minus is plus (negative x negative = positive).....minus times plus is minus (negative x positive = negative).....plus times plus is plus (positive x positive = positive) DIVISION: minus divi minus is plus (negative ÷ negative = positive)......minus divi plus is minus (negative ÷ positive = negative).....plus divi plus is plus (positive ÷ positive = positive)"
In the simplest case (direction doesn't change, force is constant), work is defined as:work = force x distance x cos(angle) No work is done when any of these factors is zero. In more complicated cases, an integral must be used for the calculation. In this case, it is possible that for part of the path, positive work is done, for another part, negative work, in which the total work MIGHT just happen to be zero.
The quotient must be negative.
When one of them is negative and the other is positive.
ill say a positive number
When both are positive or both are negative.
