Best Answer

It undergoes remission with pregnancy and with certain medications.

It tends to become inactive after menapause, but any permanent damage remains From personal experience & others' experiences, throw in as much research as my brain could handle; the answer is it doesn't. There are several treatments both established & "old wives' tales" that help lessen the symptoms. In some cases there has been relief for years only to have it come back later in life, this has included the cases of people with hysterectomies & who have had children. I can only say that it varies from person to person, the location of where they were detected, the stage or severity of your case and other inputs. My best advise is talk to your doctor & if he/she can't help, possibly seek a second or third opinion. It is by far the longest & one of the toughest battles a woman can face, as the research & treatments are very few & the cause or origin has yet to found. Best of luck on this travel of your life. Endometriosis cannot be cured. There are only medications and surgeries that will help "keep it under control" but that is not even guaranteed. Even hysterectomies are not cures.

Does endometriosis smell?

Endometriosis does not necessarily have an odor, or at least not one that you would be able to detect, since endometriosis is inside of you. If you are experiencing vaginal odor, it is most likely not endometriosis, and you should visit your OB GYN with your concerns.

Which endometriosis symptom is normal?

Could you have endometriosis if you already have a child?

Yes. Having a child does not protect you from endometriosis. While having endometriosis often makes becoming pregnant difficult for women, becoming pregnant will also reduce the symptoms of endometriosis. So, being diagnosed with endometriosis after having a child makes it rather difficult for your doctor to determine whether you had endometriosis prior to the pregnancy or if it became an issue post-pregnancy - especially if you were positively diagnosed with endometriosis shortly after giving birth.

Do you have periods if you have endometriosis?

All women are different. Some women with endometriosis will not have regular periods. However, there are also women with endometriosis that either have irregular periods, or even those that have very regular periods. If you think you may have endometriosis, see your OB GYN.

How old can you be to get endometriosis?

I'm pretty certain any female who has their period can get endometriosis. "Endometriosis can affect any woman, from premenarche to postmenopause, regardless of her race or ethnicity or whether or not she has had children" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endometriosis) If you do think you have it, go see your doctor and they might be able to help you find ways to treat it without having to go to a gynocologist (if you feel you are too young). I think I may have endometriosis , but I'm waiting til I'm 18 to see the gyno so I can work up the courage! But definitely go to the doctor if you have period pain, because they should be able to help with the pain a little bit, if not completely :)
