So far, there has been a 2-3 three year gap between the publications of each of the Inheritance books. The name or an estimated release date for the fourth book has yet to be released.
Author Paolini has stated that he came up with about 100 pages of the fourth book while writing Brisingr, so this may possibly speed up the process to some degree.
