You thread a needle with the thread you want to pull through, pass the needle into the material slightly within the margins of the pattern and pull the thread through.

You don't really have to pull the top thread through to tie off because the stitch density is high enough to lock the thread, you can clip close. If you feel the need, unpick a few stitches (don't rip them, unravel the top and bobbin threads) until you have enough length to work with, pull the top thread through the fabric with the bobbin thread ad tie them together. When you change top thread, lay a short tail of the previous color and the new thread across the next pattern section and the thread will be locked. Same idea when you change the bobbin thread

History of embroidery?

Embroidery means only a needle or the art of needle work. It is the art or handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with designs stitched in strands of thread or yarn using a needle. Embroidery may also use other materials such as metal strips, pearls, beads, quills, and sequins. Usually many people are interested in embroidery as it is a beautiful work of art.

Can you use sewing thread to bead with?

Beading thread is usually finer (thinner) and stronger than sewing thread. There are so many different kinds of sewing thread, it's hard to answer your question. Using the correct thread for the project is important in you want your work to last. You can get a sense of pride for a job well done.

How do you operate or sew with a sun hand operated sewing machine?

Just bought one of these at an antique shop and was totally befuddled, but I'm an engineer so I enjoy the puzzle of getting things to work. Here's what worked for me, just successfully sewed up the bottom of a pants pocket. Make sure that the thread will flow freely from the spool, through the two metal eyelets (looks like the end of a safety pin), and through the needle hole. If there's any resistance it will bind up. There's a thing on the side that looks like a pulley with a spring that you'd think the thread should go through but it doesn't. That's only to hold the thread when you're not using it. I held it with the sharp end of the needle pointing away from me and the spool nearest my body, but you can probably do this either way. To get started, have the thread through the needle but NOT into the bottom of the machine. Pull about an inch or two of thread out the front (away from your body). To start the sewing, lift the metal flange on the bottom (has two metal tabs on it and the hole that the needle will go through) and insert the fabric under it so that the needle will just barely touch the edge of the fabric when you squeeze. Each time you squeeze, the machine will pull the fabric through one stich-length, but you have to be sure that it's not binding. After the first few stiches, pause and make sure the end of the thread isn't caught under the flange, it likes to get caught there and give you trouble. Pull the end of the thread away from there. After that, keep squeezing, make sure you squeeze it all the way down each time. Also make sure that the fabric sides easily through the flange. If there are folds in the fabric it might try to bind up. Any binding pretty much screws up the stich, so be careful. When you get to the end of the stich, pull it out a few inches so you have some thread to tie off so the seam doesn't unravel. Do the same for the end you started with. When you're done, secure the thread in that spring pulley so that it doesn't unwind itself in the drawer. I didn't find anything on how to work this other than this unanswered question, so hopefully this helps someone!

How do you thread an Elna 1500 sewing machine?

First, raise the presser foot lever and turn the flywheel towards you to raise the thread take-up lever to its highest point. Next,, place your spool of thread on the horizontal post and hold in place with the spool cap. You know that little nick in the spool where you tuck your thread so the spool won't unravel? Make sure that nick is pointing to the right. Now draw your thread to the left and "click" it into the little silver loop. A 1" oval thread guide sits to the left of that silver loop; draw your thread around the left of the thread guide. Now you're going to loop your thread through the tension discs. You'll see two "cracks" in your machine. First run your thread DOWN through the RIGHT crack, then immediately UP through the LEFT crack. At the top of the LEFT crack is your silver thread take-up lever. This is probably the trickiest part of threading your machine because the lever is always kind of inside the machine. But you can do it! Pass your thread from RIGHT to LEFT through the back of the loop at the top of the silver lever. Whew! We're almost there. Now draw your thread right back down the same crack you pulled it up before. You now have two stationary guides above your needle. Pass it through the thick silver guide and then through the thin silver guide. Both of these moves are kind of a left-to-right motion. Now thread your needle from FRONT to BACK. You're done -- well, except for the bobbin. Hold your bobbin spool above the bobbin case so that it looks like a letter "P" Draw the bobblin thread from RIGHT to LEFT through the small crack in the silver part of the bobbin case, then pull the thread straight toward the back of the machine. Now turn your flywheel one revolution toward you so that your upper thread picks up the bobbin thread. Now close your bobbin cover, and SEW! Congratulations! You did it!
