When is Xbox live going to be free?

Rumor has it that it will within the year... I kinda hope so, but still I would be more willing to pay for something that works than have what PS3 has with seemingly just thrown in multiplayer.

It is a known fact that Microsoft is fighting for gaming superiority over PS3 and free online play will get A LOT of people off of the PS3 bandwagon and make them at LEAST want to try the 360.

I hate being a pessimist but... never. Xbox live will never be free and please stop asking .

my friend rang up Microsoft to fix his account because it got hacked and they foxed it for him and while he was on the phone he said is he could renew the live on the phone and the guy on the other end said that it was pointless because its coming out free in February

While many people thought Xbox Live was going to be free for Xbox One, it's not. The good thing at least is that they work universally and can be used on both the 360 and Xbox One. You can get free xbox live trials though at a place called xbox trial.

No but a silver account is. You cannot play online with your friends but you can send messages and private chat with one person. Gold subscriptions come in either 1-Month, 3-Month, 6-Month, 12-Month, or 13-Month.

Live Gold is not free and sites that let you earn toward membership would never be considered free
Some parts of Xbox Live are available but you can not get live gold for free. Anyone can give any kind of bonus they want with a purchase, but that is not free and nether is doing something to earn an item make it free.

The Xbox membership for live is to more than likely never be free, I'm afraid.

Regular Xbox Live is already free. It is very basic though. If you want to play in online multiplayer you will need an Xbox Live Gold Membership which cost money.
