It could mean one of your timing belts are loose
Oil slow getting to the head
It really depends on the cause of the noise. Every Inline-4 Cylinder car I have ever seen makes some kind of clicking type noise when they are started cold, I'm pretty sure it's noise from the mechanical valve lifters. If it's really concerning to you, take the car to a qualified mechanic.
A loose belt that becomes more noticeable at cold temperatures.
It could be a sticking hydraulic lifter or valves that are slightly out of adjustment.
It's probably normal, the power steering fluid need to warm up.
The most common reason for a car not starting, on a cold day, is the battery needs to be charged. Make sure the battery has a full charge.
If the noise is coming from the engine area, it is most likely a loose and/or worn drive belt. Try pouring water on the belt when it makes the noise. If noise goes away, then suspect a belt.
I'm pretty sure it makes this noise because it is warmimg up. When the hot air it is creating, hits the cold air that is already in your house, it makes a noise that sort of sound like a loud boom. I really hope this helped! ;) ;) =) =D ;P :P =P
slipping alternator/power steering/ auxillary drive belt
Most probably the noise is piston slap, this noise is heard when the engine is cold and disappears when the engine is hot. if the slap is very strong when the engine is cold and the noise becomes less when hot but still the noise can be heard.
If your Honda Civic is squeaking when you turn the steering wheel then it could be the belt to the power steering pump that needs replacing.
This is a possibility. Sometimes if you over-use your voice you can be horse without being sick. Horseness is common with or after a cold.
