From my view, no, you need to stop or else you will end up hurting yourself. I know because it happened to me. If this person really care about you, you don't have to ask for some attention or make you the first priority. But the tone of your question, I could tell that he don't know how to make you feel special, so just stop for your own sake and happiness....
