Yes, have it checked every time the belt is replaced. Especially if yours is one of the ones made with a hard PVC plastic, which in some climates, can become warped over time by extreme heat/cold.

Can your AC not working have anything to do with the mechanic just replacing the drive belt tensioner and serpentine belt?

Check to make sure the belt is routed around the compressor pulley. Also check the wiring connector at the compressor in case it was dislodged.

Why would an Explorer make a squealing noise when you start it?

Assuming you have already checked the obvious, the serpentine belt tensioner and belt. A common cause of the squeal in 4.0 Ford engines is the camshaft sychronizer (takes the place of the distributor on DIS, distributorless ignition systems). It sounds very similar to a belt squeal and is often mis-diagnosed as a belt being loose or worn. The noise can be intermittant, but if the noise is there when you have the hood up use a simple mechanic's stethoscope to help pinpoint the source of the noise. == == The most likely culprit is a serpentine belt or the belt tensioner. Try replacing the serpentine belt. If the noise persists, replace the belt tensioner. See the related article "Serpentine belt and Tensioner FAQ for the Ford Explorer all models"

Why does 2000 escort zx2 serpentine belt come off when it is not in bad shape?

I'm not a mechanic but I just had to have the belt tensioner replaced on my 99 ZX2. There are no other adjustments.

How do you adjust the serpentine belt tension 2004 dodge ram?

The tensioner is a moving part and can wear out like any other mechanical part, however, there is one bolt in the front of the tensioner pulley (15mm) that holds the tensioner in pace. Make sure that it is tight, no play in the part. There really is no "tightening" of the belt because that is the tensioner's job. If your belt is loose or squeaking you may want to replace the part. That is what I am doing. I have a 2004 Ram 2500 4x4 w/ 5.7L HEMI and am replacing the tensioner. There are 80K miles on the rig and I maintain it meticulously. Troubleshooting the consistent squeaking after the belt r&r I decided it is the tensioner and my mechanic conferred. Oreilly's has the OEM part for $45 (DODGE HOUSE IS $75.00) and it will take 20 minutes to change the tensioner and reinstall the new belt.

On a 94 corsica what all needs to be removed before you can replace the serpentine belt?

Getting the serpentine belt onMost vehicles don't require you to remove parts to install the serpentine belt. Most vehicles have a diagram on the hood or under the hood showing the proper alignment and direction of a serpentine belt. There is a tensioner that must be pulled to allow you to install the belt. With out a 1/2" Socket wrench you will not be able to put the belt on your car. If you don't have a diagram and cant find the tensioner pulley I suggest asking a mechanic for help. Its not time consuming if you know what your doing. I can change my serpentine belt in 10 mins MAX, on my Lincoln caddy and x terra. None of them require removing a part.

How do you fix a timing belt tensioner on 97 Saturn SC2 What is cost if mechanic does it?

A 97 SC2 does not have a timing belt, it has a timing CHAIN. The timing chain tensioner is INSIDE the engine, behind the oil pump. Replacing the timing chain tensioner is a complex process, requiring substantial engine dis-assembly, and you should replace the timing chain and sprockets at the same time.HOWEVER...If, as I suspect, you are being told that you need to replace the serpentine belt tensioner, it's a relatively simple process, back off the old tensioner, remove the belt (may as well put on a new one when you're done), a couple bolts and the old tensioner is gone, then put the new one in it's place, tighten it up and install the new belt. Probably a 15 minute process if you have all of the tools and supplies with you. NOTE, it will be much easier if you remove the passenger side tire, pull out the inner fender liner (for access to the engine), and work on it from there.
