A minimum of 15 inches off the finished side wall. and a minimum of 12 inches of the finished back wall. However, 18" side clearance is the international standard for wheelchair and assisted toilet seating thereby providing more manuevering room; it also feels mor comfortable for larger people. More advice from FAQ Farmers: * 12" * Check with the manufactures spec sheet the should come with the new water closet if not with the the fixture a call to the Plumbing supply place should get the exact dimension for that model as they vary between residintial houseing and mobile homes and even handicap fixtures * Toilets are available in 10", 12", or 14" rough in sizes. 12" is the most common.

12 inches from the finished wall to the centre of the hole. If drywall is not on the wall yet, make it 12 1/2 inches from the wood wall! Minimum 16 inches from each side wall, I'd recommend a minimum of 18 inches!

How do I install a toilet myself?

Installing a toilet is not an easy, do-it-yourself task. It takes skill and precision to complete all the steps necessary. This is possibly the single, most troublesome fixture to install as it requires its own 2" minimum vent and a drain of at least 3" in diameter. If the toilet is situated on a branch drain, it cannot be upstream from the sink or shower. The minimum side distance allowed from the center of the toilet bowl to a wall is 15 inches, and 12 inches from the center of the bowl to a bathtub; clearance from the front of a bowl to a wall or fixture should be 21 inches. You can find further do-it-yourself instructions from a local hardware store that sells plumbing equipment.
