There isn't one, it runs on dual chains, one for each cylinder bank,
It has a timing belt.
The 2.0 liter 4 cylinder has a timing BELT and the 2.5 liter V6 has a timing CHAIN
According to the owners manual the timing belt should be replaced at 90,000 miles (schedule A) for the 3.5 liter engine
( No ) the 2.5 liter V6 engine in a 2000 Ford Contour has ( 2 timing CHAINS , 1 CHAIN to each cylinder head )
That means the timing is off and you should take it to your local ford dealership to have it done.
Every 90,000 miles per Mazda
It don't have a timing chain and if it did it would out last the engine. It should have a timing belt and it should be replaced about 60 thousand miles. Sorry I must disagree with my friend who is very knowledgable. The 3.5 Liter and 3.9 Liter Chevy V6 has a timing chain and not a belt. The chain will last the life of the engine.
The ignition timing on Contour engines is controlled by the computer, and is not adjustable. However, if you're talking about the 4-cylinder 2.0 liter, it uses a timing belt for the cams, and if it is worn and slips a tooth, it would cause some real problems. (The 2.5 liter V6 isn't subject to this, as it uses a timing chain for the cams.)
According to the Gates website the 2.4 and 2.7 liter 4 cylinder engines must use a timing CHAIN , only the 3.4 liter V6 has a timing belt listed to change at 90,000 miles
( Yes ) according to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera ) the 2.0 liter four cylinder engine in a 1998 Ford Contour IS NOT an interference engine
You did not list which model Mazda or which engine. However all of these 4 cylinder Mazda engines have a cam belt that should be replaced every 60,000 miles or 10 years whichever comes first. 1.6 Liter 1.8 Liter 2.0 Liter The 2.3 Liter V6 also has a belt that should be replaced at 60,000 miles. The 2.5 Liter V6 has a belt that should be replaced at 105,000 miles. None of these are interference engines but if the belt breaks you will have to have the car towed and you will be stranded.
According to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera ) for the 2.0 liter four cylinder engine in a 2003 Ford Escape ( 120,000 miles )
