A diagram of how to change and how many spark plugs are on a 2000 Mercedes e320
The spark plugs on a 1998 Mercedes Benz E320 are changed by removing the cover plate, disconnecting the plug wires, and unscrewing the spark plugs using a deep wall socket. New plugs are then put in place and torque down to specifications.
You will first need to remove the coils and plug wires to access the spark plugs. The coils sit on top of the valve cover and are held in with small torx head screws. Then pry off the plug wires and remove the coil and wires together. Then you have access to the spark plugs.
I was a Mercedes mechanic. I have a 1998 E320 wagon and changed the plugs according to the schedule on page 33, Spark Plug Intervals, in the Service Booklet: At aproximately every 100,000 miles or 4 years. There are 12 of them, they are platinum and cost about $150. It took me a couple of hours and I found it easier to remove the coils also.
Remove 6 long hexnut screws from cover next to oilfill cap. Remove cover.
there are 12 plugs..6 fire the cylinders and then the remaining burn the remaining fuel in the exhaust before it goes out the tail pipe this lowers the emisions of the car.
Very easily!!! When your looking at the top of your engine, you willnotice a black intake tube that runs over the valvecover, this needs to be removed. 2 10mm nuts on center,1 hose clamp on the right side, (where it goes into the intake)will need very long screw driver for this one, (can be purchasedat Harbor frieght for very cheap. Then there should be someclamps on the left side. Once you have the intake tube removed, then all you have to dois remove the cover for the spark plugs, which is directly on topof the valve cover, should be held in by Allen screws. once thatcover is removed the coils and plugs will be visble. remove the coilsthat sit on top of the spark plugs, then remove the spark plugs. Good luck!
They are on both rt. and lt. sides of the motor, my e320 has 12 plugs, 2 per cylinder. The inline 6 cylinder 320 has the other 3 plugs under the coils. wiggle gently and lift straight up. Blow out the spark plug holes after loosining the plugs so as not to contaminate the cylinder.
A 1999 Mercedes E320 takes 8.5 quarts of oil. The oil in the vehicle should be changed every three months.
