At the first sign that the battery is weak or not holding a full charge. Batteries can last from 2 to 7 years. You never know when it will fail. You can test it with a DC volt meter.
12.6 volts = 100% charge
12.4 volts = 75%
12.2 volts = 50%
12.0 volts = 25%
If it is not holding a 100% charge then it may need replacing.
