The "neocon" (neo-conservative advisors) group in the White House persuaded President George W. Bush to go into Iraq, believing that the timing was "right" to depose Saddam Hussein, even though Iraq was never convincingly connected to the 9/11 Al Qaeda participants (with the vast majority of them being of Saudi Arabian nationality, and none of them being Iraqi).
