It was only the western part of the Roman Empire which fell. Its former lands were carved up. The Germanic peoples who invaded it and those who had been allowed to settle in the empire as allies established their own kingdoms: the Kingdom of the Vandals in north-western Africa, the Kingdom of the Visigoths in Hispania (Spain and Portugal) and south-western France, the Burgundian kingdom in eastern France, the kingdom of the Franks in northern and central France. The Alemanni took over Switzerland and north-eastern France. Finally, the Ostrogoths took over Italy, which became part of the Kingdom of the Ostrogoths. The eastern part of the Roman Empire was not affected by these invasions and continued to exist for nearly 1,000 years.

Who ruled the people of Rome politically?

It depends on which time of Rome it is. Monarchy Republic Empire Decline (spells Mr.Ed!) If it was the Monarchy, it means one person was in charge of all of Rome, meaning the monarch of Rome controlled Rome politically. If it was the Republic, there were two censors (I think) that ruled Rome, and these two censors basically governed Rome. (I also think that each censor could rule for only one year) If it was Empire, then there was elements of both Monarchy AND Republic, meaning that there was one monarch that controlled, but the power was limited by the Republic. If it was Decline, there was no ruler:) This is kind of a vague answer, and some of the stuff might be wrong if I remembered incorrectly.

Who was the king before Caesar?

Julius Caesar was NOT a king, Rome had been a republic for several hundred years. Before that, it had been ruled by kings, and after Caesar's murder it soon switched to emperors (for the first decades there were 2 then 3 rulers at the same time, but then they decided 1 emperor was enough!).

Which feature of Ancient Rome made it republic?

The Romans created a republic to make sure that there would be no dynastic, authoritarian rule over them as they experienced with the kings. By limiting the term of office of their elected officials and imposing time limits before they could be reelected to office, they achieved this.
