The Y chromosome will be included in the DNA test that determines paternity, because as we all know, half of our DNA comes from the mother and the other half from the father, which makes up the full genetic profile of the child with both x and y chromosome pairings.

With a DNA kit you can use the swabs and a sample of your saliva to see if someone's DNA matches another person. This is often used to determine paternity of a child.

How does a DNA test work to confirm the identity of someones father?

DNA paternity testing works by comparing the DNA of the mother and child. The traits not apparent in the mother's DNA have to come with the father. Then, the DNA of the alleged father and child are compared. If the father has the missing traits, he may be the father.

How do you use electrophoresis to determine paternity of a baby?

Children receive half of their genetic material from each parent. There are specific sites on DNA, known as restriction sites, that are recognized by restriction enzymes. These are used to determine paternity. Samples of DNA from the mother, father and child are taken. They are all digested ('cut') by the same restriction enzymes. These DNA fragments are then separated by gel electrophoresis (which separates fragments based on size). The bands of the child are compared to the mother and father's. If the band is not the same as the mother's, it must have come from the father. If these do not match up, then the sample was not taken from the biological father.

You can only "amend" a paternity affidavit if you have a paternity test done to prove or disprove paternity... In many cases this is something that the state will do (ie of child support orders)

Does paternity have to be determined in child conceived during separation for a divorce?

It will have to be determined through a paternity test if the father is denying the child. If the father admits the child is his, no paternity test has to be completed.

The unwed father was found dead. Can the mother represent the minor child in a class action law suit if the decedent had the mother of his child listed on his contact information?

She must consult with an attorney. His paternity must be established legally before the child can have any standing as his heir. The listing of contacts is not proof of paternity. Unwed parents who do not establish their child's paternity legally are doing a great disservice to the child. She must consult with an attorney. What if you find out the results to a DNA paternity test are false?

Call a divorce lawyer right away. Depending on the state you live in, time is of the essence. In some states, you, the alleged father, will be required to pay child support on a child that isn't biologically yours unless you refute paternity in a timely fashion.

If the biological mother refuses to go for a paternity test?

Paternity while pregnant?

Absolutely! Its called a prenatal paternity test and it can be conducted after 8 weeks of pregnancy! This test can be done with the mother of the child and potential father of the child. This test is done with a simple blood test with the mother and a buccal test (cheek swab) with the potential father. Results are returned in 7 days from your lab. So, it is indeed possible to get a paternity test while you are pregnant.

How can you tell if paternity results are real and official?

Theres no real way to tell, but if it has a signature by a physician, the sample dates, and the results, then of course it is real. It would be very hard and almost impossible to fake paternity results because you would have to list the alleles and everything and make it match up. Only a genius (lab technician) could perform something like that. If your able to do the math and make results, then congrats to you,but Ive NEVER heard of someone other than a lab worker who could do that. You also have to look at the fact that there are different types of results, and the way paternity results are written vary in other labs. Child Protective Services and the Department of Economic Security also have their own way of writing results. Most times, they do not give them on paper unless it is requested. Of course, the state paternity results are real though. Point is, paternity results are very difficult to fake. And if it was fake, itd be obvious because there wouldnt be any dates on it, no signature of who performed the test, no results besides saying "your 100% the father", and it probably wouldnt even include the correct format the way a test is written.
