XP, Vista and Windows 7 have "FAST" (The Files And Settings Transfer program).

You will need an external hard drive or large USB thumb drive to do the transfer.

It's pretty straight forward; but to make sure it goes well, run the program first on your NEW computer (it's in the start menu), and create the utility on a USB thumb drive (or external hard drive) from the NEW computer first; then things will go smoothly for you.

I have used this method many many times; and it copies over just about everything; your documents, music, shortcuts, desktop, internet Explorer shortcuts, e-mail setup, etc.
