When using an AED on adult and AED give a no shock indicated or no shock advised message what do you do next and do you leave the pads on?

Check for both a brachial pulse and carotid pulse. If pulse is present, assist ventilation. If no pulse is present, continue CPR until help arrives, the victim regains consciousness or you physically cannot perform CPR any longer. Also note if you are acting as a certified individual (First responder, EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-P, RN, MD) You may only pass off CPR and management of the patient to someone of an equal or higher certification level.

Give 2 minutes of CPR (5 cycles) before analyzing the heart rhythm again. The 2 minutes is programmed into the AED.

Answer 3

Leave the pads on. Check for breathing & pulse. No breathing, no pulse, continue CPR until the AED reanalyzes.

Answer 4

Monitor the patient always; if CPR is needed, perform CPR until the AED analyzes again.

Answer 5

Resume CPR as normal if needed.
