Civilization of the modern day "China" has been dated back to 1600 b.c. (before Christ).
China was never called China nor did the people refer to themselves as Chinese until the Qin Dynasty (Qin pronounced Chin). It was not until the warring states which eventually permanently unified all the dynasties into one and developed the name China.
Most Chinese will tell you that China was never there, as opposed to common European beliefs and ways of thinking and looking at things or even describing Chinese
Chinese history begins with the patriarchal emperor Huang Di and there is archeological evidence of earlier settlements prior to the founding of China.
History tells us that the Shang Dynasty was the first known settlement in the land where China is today, after the time of Nimrod. So, the Chinese people, migrating from God's dispersion, from the Shang Dynasty, were the first settlers in China.
Who discovered whom? There appears to be no evidence to indicate who discovered who (west or east). Silk Roads were developed as early as 206 BC so that appears to be the time they made discovery of one another. At this time, merchants didnt travel from east to west but from various points along the way. So civilization in the east didnt really know what was happening in the west but would hear things and vise verse. In regards to who physically visited one another, Europe first landed in China. This was due to the fall of Constantinople in 1453 and trading routes by land were severed with Asia leading many to begin seeking routes east by sea and spurred the age of exploration. Europe was the only advanced civilization at that time to make that feat over sea which ended up dictating trade with Asia.
Chinas history and prehistory goes backso far that discovery realy isn't part of the equation.
