Why did Governor Lachlan Macquarie come to the colony?

In 1809, Lieutenant Colonel Lachlan Macquarie arrived in Sydney to take up the position of Governor of the New South Wales colony, which he held from 1810 to 1821. With his military training and vision for organisation and discipline, Macquarie was an ideal candidate to restore order to the colony, following the Rum Rebellion against deposed Governor William Bligh. Macquarie upheld high standards for the development of New South Wales from penal colony to free settlement. He introduced the first building code into the colony and ordered the construction of roads, bridges, wharves, churches and public buildings.

How did lachhlan macquarie treat aboriginals?

Terribly!! He provided no protection for Goori (Aboriginal of Nrth East Nsw) people of Port Macquarie, he had in fact declared martial war against Koori(Sth East/South West) people prior to establishing penal colony of Port Macquarie. Australia to this day in 2011 is the last reaming british penal colony to have an agreement/treaty with the respective 1st nations. So let us not be harsh on Macquarie he mearly is representative of Australian Anglo Saxon culture which still today wont accept responsibility for acknowledging full human rights, let alone paying fair rent or recompense for illegally taking the land..... Truths stands in 2011 Australia the most racist false democracy on the Planet without treaty agreement with the 1st Nations they have dispossessed illegally.
