Peter Minuit represented the Dutch Republic. He is best known for his role as the director of the New Netherland colony, where he famously purchased Manhattan Island from the local Native American tribes in 1626. Minuit's actions were pivotal in establishing Dutch influence in North America. Later, he also served as the governor of the Swedish colony of New Sweden.
Peter Minuit was sent to gather the Dutch colonists together in one place so they would be more protected. He bought New York and set up a fort.
