The New Netherland governor who conquered New Sweden in 1655 was Peter Stuyvesant. He led the Dutch forces in a successful military campaign against the Swedish colony, effectively ending Swedish rule in the region and bringing it under Dutch control. Stuyvesant's actions helped to solidify Dutch dominance in the area, although New Netherland itself would later fall to the English in 1664.

The colony that was part of the present-day cities of Alabama and New York is the Dutch colony of New Netherland. Established in the early 17th century, it included parts of what are now New York City and extended down the Hudson River into parts of present-day Alabama. The Dutch influence in this region was significant during its existence, until the English seized control in 1664. This led to the eventual establishment of New York as an English colony.

He bought it from the local Indians and called it New Amsterdam. More colonists settled nearby and together they became New Netherland (todays New York). Soon they enlarged New Netherland by taking over the colony of New Sweden.
