Well, despite the fact that the catholic organisation tortured and murdered those who attempted ( and most who succeeded ) in translating The Bible into the "common" language, it was John Wyclif in the 1300's.

Even today ( well, as recently as around 1986 ) the roman catholic law states that any Bible published that is not approved by the vatican is condemned.

It is thanks to this man, among a few others that we know the truth through the Word of God today.
