Olmo1989: In terms of the amount of land the empire covered it was at its largest between the two world wars. After WW1 Britain occupied some of Germany and the Ottoman empires former territories, thus augmenting the empire's landmass and population. However, I would argue thought that by this point the British Empire was already past its strongest and was in decline. This decline began during the last 2 decades of the 19th century when other nations such as Germany, the USA and Russia began to industrialise and catch up with Britain economically. There was also increased imperial rivalry with Germany and France and increasingly Britain felt threatened by the emergence of other powers. From about 1815-1880 thought Britain pre-eminence in the world had been more or less unrivalled and she had pursued an isolationist policy.
Britain as an Empire Power was probably at its height immediately before WW1. Both World Wars took a heavy toll on Britain, not least economically. I suppose Britain has been, therefore, in decline ever since. In terms of land owned, it peaked after WW1 because of the mandates given to it by the League of Nations. Economically it peaked before WW1 as the wars drained its resources and allowed the US to take over its markets
The British Empire was at it's greatest in 1922, when it held sway to over 1/4 (or 458 million people) of the world's population. At this time period it had about 33,700,000 km squared.

Some people think that the Roman Empire was the most powerful empire in history. However, this is not the view of historians. More powerful empires have existed. Probably the most powerful empire in history was the British colonial empire.
their powerful navy and command of most maritime ports and commerce domination
It was the British Empire. It might not have lasted the longest but it was the most powerful and it's Navy owned the waters. The Empire owned 1/4 of the world. The closest in size was the mongol.
depends how you mean, European empire or empire in Europe The british empire was the largest European empire, controlling 1/4 of the world's landmass. The roman empire was the most powerful in Europe, controlling nearly half of Europe
The British Empire (of whuch the many of the states of the US were a colony).
Undoubtedly Great Britain. The British Empire was, for most of that period, far and away the largest and most powerful empire in the world.
There was no such thing as the "George V" Empire. King George V was the King of the British Empire at its peak years (1919-1922). The Empire that he reigned over made up one fourth of the world's land and one sixth of the living people. So, it was the most powerful and biggest empire ever.
the Persian empire
The British Empire
They were all part of the British Empire
A collection of kingdoms under one powerful ruler is known as an empire. Examples of empires can be seen throughout history, the Roman Empire, the Ottoman empire, the Mongol Empire, and the British Empire, just to name a few.
The Persians. Huge and cultured empire.
