Genesis 3:22

Another Answer:

The Edenic Covenant with Adam in the Garden of Eden - sometimes called the "Covenant of Works" and is the first covenant that God made directly with man (Genesis 2:16-17). Disobeying this covenant as noted in Hosea 6:7, had its negatives of toiling the ground all the days of human life. The Scripture does not mention a blood sacrifice as humans were probably vegetarian then.

But God did not give up on mankind, and shortly after the expulsion from the Garden of Eden, God made another covenant with Adam & Eve of redemption (see Genesis 3:14-24) pointing to the future sacrifice of Jesus. There have been others afterwards, ending with the New Covenant that was only instituted at the Last Supper with the symbolic cup of wine representing Christ's blood. It will be fully implemented during the Millennial Reign.

All Covenants between God and mankind are contracts of marriage. The Old Covenant ended when Jesus died - effectively the death of the groom.

What part in the Bible is God's covenant?

God has made several covenants in the bible. The first was with adam, of course. As long as they would obey him i.e not eat from the forbidden tree, they would enjoy direct relationship with him. Then there was the covenant with the patriachs, all in Genesis. Another covenant was made, or a continuation of the old one, depending on how you look at it, with david. This can be found in first or second kings. All christians benefit from this covenant.

How important is the covenant to Judaism?

It is at the very center of Judaism, or rather, it is the central defining feature of Judaism. First note that the Hebrew Scriptures discuss several covenants, the covenant of the rainbow made with Noah and his sons, the covenant of the parts made with Abraham are examples. However, when someone says "the covenant" they are usually asking about the covenant made between God and the Children of Israel at Siani. Jews traditionally hold that the entire Torah (quibbling about the final verses) is the product of that covenant and that all 613 commandments found in the Torah are part of this covenant.
