Yes. There are at least three known talking movie versions of The Wizard of Oz. The first, and the best known, is the 1939 film version. The second is The Wiz, in 1978. And the last is The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, in 2005. In addition, a sequel ka Return to Oz was released, in 1985. Mark Evan Swartz published Oz Before the Rainbow, in 2000. The book lists all of the on-stage and on-screen versions of the original book by author and Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 5, 1919], up to the 1939 version. For there were a number of silent film versions of the first book, and in fact succeeding books, in the series. This list includes The Wizard of Oz, in 1908, 1921, and 1925; The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Dorothy and the Scarecrow in Oz, and The Land of Oz, in 1910; and The Patchwork Girl of Oz, The Magic Cloak of Oz, and His Majesty the Scarecrow of Oz, in 1914.
