Roughly eight miles northeast of Lansing, Michigan is the small farming community of Bath. On 18 May 1927, Andrew Kehoe, the district school board treasurer, upset over losing the previous year's election to the position of township clerk, packed the local elementary school buildings with over 1,000 pounds of explosives, set in three charges. Setting it off by timed detonation, 38 school children, and 6 adults were killed in the blasts, 58 others were injured. Half of Kehoe's bomb failed to detonate. Had it, nearly every child below the age of 13 would likely have died.
