The Statue of Liberty was constructed in France, then disassembled and crated for shipment across the Atlantic Ocean around January of 1885. The statue arrived in New York in June of 1885. There was some difficulties in funding the pedestal, which led to a delayed re-assembly of the statue. After the completion of the statue's construction, a dedication ceremony was held on October 28, 1886.
October 28, 1886 was the official dedication by President Cleveland.
The statue was delivered to the American ambassador in Paris on July 4th, 1884.

The torch is found on the right hand of the Statue of Liberty. The statue was a gift to the United States from the people of France. Every year hundreds of thousands of people and tourist take a free ferry from the Manhattan Harbor to Staten Island and can view the Statue of Liberty.

The one in Odaiba was erected after a year-long France festival in the late 90's. It should be noted that the Tokyo replica is based on the French replicas of the original in NYC.
The Statue of Liberty is not on Ellis Island. Ellis Island is to the north of Liberty island where the Statue of liberty is located. It was dedicated on 28 October 1886.

In addition to the Statue of Liberty in New York, there are also two replicas of the statue in France (where the New York one was made). One of these was sent to Tokyo in 1998 for "French Year in Japan". It was so popular that a replica was erected in 2000, after the original was sent back to Paris.
The Statue of Liberty became a World Heritage site in 1984.
