Best Answer
  1. Transistor: 1947 by Shockley, Bardeen, and Brattain at Bell Labs.
  2. Integrated Circuit/Microchip: 1958 by Noyce at Fairchild.

Note: Kilby at Texas Instruments invented an Integrated Circuit (using Germanium) 6 months prior to Noyce, but it had to be hand wired under a microscope. Noyce's design (using Silicon) could be done entirely photolithographically. All modern Integrated Circuits/Microchips derive from the Noyce/Fairchild process, not the earlier Kilby/Texas Instruments process.

Do the integrated circuit and the microchip go together?

An integrated circuit can be either monolithic (all on one piece of semiconductor) or hybrid (several separate components attached to a tiny ceramic circuit board). A microchip is another name for a monolithic integrated circuit.

Where did DrCarl Sanders invent the microchip?

http://www.eaec.org/expose/carls2.htm Apparently, the only thing "Dr." Carl Sanders invented was this story about his inventing the microchip. The monolithic integrated circuit was invented by Jack Kilby of Texas Instruments in Dallas.

What would a microchip be used for in 1948?

Even though Time Magazine reports that Robert Noyce first handled a microchip in college in 1948, the microchip/integrated circuit hadn't officially been invented at that time! All the people involved in the development of the microchip were all working for the military on the chip at the same time, yet they didn't know of each other's existence or that other people were working on the "invention".The microchip was not invented but was reverse engineered from wreckage found at the Roswell crash in 1947 - the year the transistor was discovered. It was from this date on that the military had people working on an integrated circuit, all unaware of each other's activity.Microchips are now used to produce RFID chips which are produced by a Californian company called Alien Technology - a company who has established relationships with the military divisions that the "inventors" of the microchip all worked for.An Earthly working microchip did not exist until the 1950's
