Did the girls in The Crucible really summon any black magic?

No. That is in fact the very point of the play: The Crucible. The people being accused were wholly innocent with no evidence to even attempt to prove their culpability. The girls had no ability to perform black magic which further proves the incredulity with which one should approach the witchhunt.

Could saleem witch trials happen today?

Absolutely. As long as there are people who can be considered "different" by the larger culture, there are scapegoates for people to project their fears and prejudices on. We saw a modern version of the Salem witchhunt in the McCarthy communist scare of the fifties, and we see it now with people being branded "terrorist" because of their heritage or religious belief (specifically muslim).

What are the Strategies that an accused witch could use to delay or avoid punishment?

knowing how to swim, eating normal, not liking toads, etc. Once accused, the person could accuse others and claim that they had accused the original "witch" in order to hide the fact that the accusers were the real witches. The general hysteria surrounding the whole witchhunt circus created ways in which more confusion could be added to the atmosphere of fear and persecution.

Did the amount of witches caught rise when shakespeare wrote Macbeth?

No. There had been an increase in witchhunting in Scotland around 1590, fifteen years before Macbeth was written. King James himself wrote a book about witchcraft in 1597. But although there were periodic trials of witches, which were unusual enough to make the news big time, there was no widespread increase or witchhunt mania. Such a thing did not occur in England until the Witchfinder General turned up in 1643 or so.

What is a percentage of comic books have a seal of approval?

If you mean the CCA, Comics Coded Authority seal of approval, almost none today. The CCA was created to thwart Government censorship in the 50's, thanks to Dr. Warthem's witchhunt of comics influencing the youth. Much like the Movie ratings were created to keep the government out of Hollywood and artistic works, the CCA as a commission to review comic books for any "offensive" material, and the seal had to be purchased to appear on a comic book. The promise was that no newsstand would carry a book without the CCA seal. in the 80's, direct distribution specialty comic book shops bloomed and comic publishers refused to pay for the code seal anymore.

Do you think Russians have a better life today to then they did under communism?

They were better off under communism. Russia was the most backward country in Europe economically and socially under the Tsar. Communism (under Lenin) did wonders for LGBT rights and started the process of rapid industrialisation. While human rights were severely restricted under Stalin, the economy boomed under his command, and after his death the Khrushchev Thaw brought many of these rights back. Regarding Stalin's murders, while unexcusable, one must objectively see them as a necessay prerequisite for fast progress. The capitalist countries industrialised over hundreds of years and killed many millions more in their empires than the Soviet Union. A quick look at British rule in India for instance reveals masses of unecessary bloodshed. As Stalin said, the USSR had to make a 50-100 year idustrial jump in 5 years or it would be crushed/invaded. For that to be possible all oposition had to be crushed. Had their been a concurrent socialist revolution in economically advanced Germany in the late 1910s, allowing for friendly trade between the two countries, perhaps the horrors of Stalinism might have been avoided. By the 1970s and 80s the Soviet Union was becoming more liberal. Had some clever reforms been made at that time, such as a renewed focus on producing consumer goods to boost the economy and a move away from bureaucratic to worker control of industry, the USSR might still be around today, instead of the gangster ruled Russia where people still 'disappear', women can make a better living taking their clothes off than working hard towards a meaningful professional job, and LGBT rights are non-existant (compare that to Brezhnev's 'fraternal kiss'). Sadly, Stalin's purges and changes to the party structure meant that any fresh talent found it difficult to reach the centres of political and economic power. Overall, the Soviet Union was not perfect, but taking into account the difficult circumstances and of its creation, and the prolonged witchhunt it was subjected to by the industrialised western nations, it provided a more egalitarian, meritocratic and respectable society than Russia under the Tsar or currently under Putin. Long live its memory. May we get it right next time.

Why is there no criticism of satanism?

firstly, many countries have free religion and belief policies. Second, if you were a christian stepping into a satanist meeting, wouldn't you just want to be no part of it and not to get their thoughts into your mind? and last, we are taught by god to love our enemies and help them be saved... if we criticized them they would get more mad at christians. But in general there is no criticism of it because it simply does not exist.Outside of a handful of silly teenagers and sad folks who never grew up, there is no organized worship of Satan. All stories of Satanism are little more than fabrications. The FBI investigated satanism thoroughly in the late 1980s, during the great satanist witchhunt in which lots of false accusations were made of satanic cults. The FBI report concluded that there was zero evidence of any actual practicing satanic cults. They found some isolated and pathetic oddballs, here and there, who had fascinations with the topic... but no groups, not covens, no meetings and no ceremonies. The idea of satanism as a threat is a delusional belief unsupported by fact.To offer a second opinion, I truly believe in God's purity and Satan's corruption, but I believe that the first user's response was at least in some areas invalid. There has been instances of manufacturing child pornography, ritualistic animal sacrifice, coprophagia, urophagia and infanticide. I mean, even recently, in Russia, 2008, eight suspected Satanists killed and ate four fellow cult members in ghastly rites in Russia, police say (see: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1056029/Satan-worshippers-kill-eat-Russian-teenagers-stabbing-666-times.html for source). I understand that there are some seriously ill people within this society, but I can no longer bear to tolerate these false allegations that, no, these people are doing nothing wrong, and never will. If one studies the Satanic bible, one may be surprised at the rites and laws the sect follows. I beg you, you must consider that even if you are inclined to join such a Satanic group, the consequences for your own mental health (and physical well-being, from the cited news article). It does exist, my friend. Simply search: "Satanism" or "Church of Satan". Even those fools who edit such articles on Wikipedia are no doubt affiliated with it. (See: en.wikinews.org/.../Satanism:_An_interview_with_Church_of_Satan_High_Priest_Peter_Gilmore; Note that this "High Priest" does indeed confess to the true nature of "some" child abuse cases, but as not all the group members engaged in it, it appeared to be insignificant to him.) We really should do something about this, and something soon. I, too, have read that the Bible asks us all to treat our enemies with honor and fairness, but surely the Creator did not intend for us to calmly sit on the sidelines and watch as this growing issue continues? Indeed, I see these "Satanists" as not enemies, but rather seriously ill people, so ill that they themselves could become a disease to this society and this planet, a disease that would cause far more damage if not cured soon. Remember this: Just because there are people who worship the devil, it does not mean it is morally or spiritually right. I would not join this cult even if all here decide to defect to them. Please, I beg you, remember this: Light shall always prevail over Darkness, in the end, but only if we allow it to do so. May God bless you all.

What Bad Things Happened to President Truman?

Here's a summary of some of the major events of his presidency:World War II ended. A lot happened here, but a very short summary is that Germany surrendered, there were some more battles against Japan, nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan (the only time that nukes were used in a war), and Japan surrendered.the resolution of the war happened. Japan was occupied by the US and a new government was set up. Germany was split up and occupied by the US, France, UK and USSR. There were lots of treaties and negotiations involved in all of this, and the surviving leaders of Germany, Italy and Japan were removed from power.German and Japanese leaders were put on trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity, the first time that's really happened. As the war was ending, the Allies found evidence of the atrocities committed by the Nazis and their Japanese allies, and it was decided that the officials who carried it out needed to be held accountable. The Nuremberg Trials were the most famous of these.the United Nations was created in an attempt to build a stronger version of the old League of Nations. The "jury's still out" on whether or not that was successful.Truman passed executive orders that helped begin the process of ending racial segregation. One of the major things he did was he ordered the US military to integrate- that is, black people didn't have to be in separate units anymore, and were allowed to fight alongside white people. The Cold War began, the US and USSR being the primary opponents (but most countries in the world were involved one way or another). Despite having recently been allies, the US and USSR distrusted each other, and sought to undermine each other. The two countries never directly fought a war against each other; rather, they got involved in other countries and their civil wars/conflicts.Germany became the first "battlefield" of the Cold War, with the Berlin Blockade and Airlift, and the subsequent permanent split of Germany into East and West Germany. The Korean War was the first major actual battle of the Cold War. Soviet-backed North Korea invaded US-backed South Korea and nearly conquered it; the US and her allies were able to launch a counter-invasion and nearly invaded China (which had very recently become Communist too); then China got involved and the war evened out. Korea wound up being split almost exactly as it had been when World War II ended. The war didn't come to an end until shortly after Truman left office.McCarthyism began. Joseph McCarthy was a US Senator who brought paranoia against Communists to the forefront of US politics. He began a witchhunt, trying to find Communists in the government and military (which was then carried over into the private sector, notably in Hollywood). McCarthy's hunt did not end until after Truman left office.By 1952, Truman was very unpopular, and did not seek reelection. His administration was plagued with corruption; the ongoing Korean War and McCarthy's Red Scare also hurt Truman's popularity. He chose not to run for reelection, and Dwight Eisenhower was elected, succeeding to the office in 1953.
