The limit was set in 1947 with the passing of the Twenty-second Amendment which put a "term-limit" on the number of terms a single president can serve. The fact that FDR served four-terms as President helped to get the Amendment passed as well. See the Related Links for a more detailed description of the amendment.
It's not a law the limits the time, it's an amendment. Amendment 22.
Normal term limit is 8 years. Two 4 year terms. If a vice-president must serve as president, he or she can not serve more than 10 years.
The current limit is eight years (two terms of four years each).
Australia does not have a president. The government is run by a Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is elected for a maximum of three years per term, but there is no limit to how many consecutive terms they can be elected to office.
For as many terms as they were elected.

Yes, as long as the one term did not exceed the term of office limit as set forth by the 25th Amendment. Yes if he has served only one term If he has served two terms, then probably not, as he is ineligible to a further term as President, and the 12th Amendment states that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States".
No time limit as whole.
