I'm sorry that I was unable to find any database for Elgin serial numbers. They were sold by Sears, and the small ones (up to about 3 HP) were made by West Bend, the larger ones were made by Scott-McCullogh.
Boats are sold for fishing, or just having a picnick.

Sears sold a "Motor Buggy" from 1908 to 1912. Then they sold the Sears "Allstate" automobile from 1953 to 1954.

In 1930 Sears didn't have a chain of stores. They were located in Chicago and mainly sold through a catalog. The brands Sears sell didn't exist in 1930. They would have sold a tractor but not a Sears brand.

I worked for Sears back in the mid 80s, like from 1984-1989 and they sold boats back then. I recall because i worked in the warehouse, they would order these in as they were purchased for the customer-they wouldn't keep them in stock. One day while unloading a truck one fell on me! Didnt hurt bad or anything-just one of those odd things that you remember for all your life.
